Samuel de Champlain was a French explorer who was famous for founding Quebec and Acadia. He is known as the '' Father of Acadia'' and as the '' Father of New France ''. Champlain was known as the Governer of New France in ever way except formal title. In 1603 Champlain began to explore North America under the guidance of Francois Grave du Pont. From 1604 to 1607 he founded and was developing Port Royal, Acadia. In 1608 he founded the place he is most known for, Quebec City, New France. He then explored further in to North America and also found furs. He later returned to France. However in 1620 King Louis XIII of France ordered Champlain to stop exploration and oversee development of Quebec. He also formed an alliance with the Wendat and agreed to help them fight in the war against the Iroquois. Champlain died on Christmas Day 1925 in Quebec which was still a small village at the time.
